Instructions: How to Clean Your CPR Pocket Mask
What is a CPR Pocket Mask and what is it used for?
Made of clear materials, our CPR masks allow rescuers to ensure proper positioning, and monitor the patient while providing care. The Adult and Infant CPR Masks sold at Palm Over Palm First Aid & CPR Corp. include everything you need to safely perform CPR while protecting yourself from cross-contamination. Included in this kit is a latex-free transparent CPR face shield, clamshell case with wrist strap, alcohol prep pads, gloves, and instructions. This CPR mask is suitable for both adults and children and features a one-way filter valve and elastic head strap to allow hands-free operation. By using a CPR mask, you eliminate the need to pinch the patient's nose shut and each breath given will have two points of entry instead of only one, making every breath count even more.

Is my CPR Pocket Mask reusable?
Many masks are only capable of withstanding a certain number of cleaning cycles before loss of performance is noted. OSHA and American Red Cross guidelines suggest that CPR Pocket Masks should not be reused more than 20 times before being replaced.
How do I sanitize and disinfect my CPR Pocket Mask at home after using it?
Before Cleaning:
CPR Pocket masks consist of 2 parts that may be disassembled. Before cleaning your mask, ensure you are wearing an unused pair of latex or vinyl gloves. Wearing the gloves, gently pull and twist the cylinder shaped nozzle from the center of the mask to detach it. This ensures each part of the mask is fully sterilized before using again.
What You’ll Need:
There are both manual and automatic cleaning methods available. They are equally effective, so you may choose whichever suits you best! If you decide to manually clean your pocket mask you will need a pair of gloves, a large bowl or container that the mask will fit into, liquid dishwashing soap (Dawn and Palmolive work best), water, and a disinfectant of your choosing (we recommend Lysol, Clorox, or any high percentage Isopropyl/Rubbing Alcohol). If you decide to attempt the automatic method, all you need is the Dishwasher appliance in your kitchen!
Manual Cleaning Steps:
-
After disassembling your CPR Pocket Mask wearing a pair of gloves, wash both parts of the mask with hot soapy water and thoroughly rinse each.
-
Pour the disinfectant you have selected into a large bowl. Ensure there is enough in the bowl so that both parts of the CPR Pocket Mask may be fully submerged.
-
Remove both mask parts from the bowl and allow them to fully air dry on a paper towel or cloth before reassembling to use again.
Automatic Cleaning Steps:
-
This one is easy! After disassembling your CPR Pocket Mask wearing a pair of gloves, place the Mask itself onto the top rack of the dishwasher. It may be positioned in any direction, however we find standing the mask upright in between the cup slots work best.
-
Place the nozzle into the lower rack section allotted to dining utensils. Avoid placing knives or any sharp cutlery around the parts of the Mask inserted into the dishwasher.
-
Remove both mask parts from your dishwasher appliance and allow them to fully air dry on a paper towel or cloth before reassembling to use again.
Please Note: CPR Pocket Masks are both top and bottom rack safe for all kitchen dishwashing appliances.
